The Wolf Story

It had been three years since Dad had turned into a wolf unexpectedly, but that Sunday when my brothers and I came home from church there he was on the front porch, panting as Mom scratched between his ears.

I have the opening, and am working a plot for a story set in the world of the morphing flash.

Considerations include
  • The working plot takes me to modern Moscow. But I am not sure if I can write that. I may need to replot.
  • The internal logic of the world contains material that may be a major turn-off if I write this for a mainstream audience, but could be a major turn-on for a kink audience. Which way should I go?
    • For example, Dad transformed during the parents' regularly scheduled Sunday morning sex session. I know this, but should I mention the claw scratches on Mom's chest?
    • Spells can be coded into body art and piercings. But that means that magical families look like refugees from Burning Man. Is that going to sell books in Peoria?
  • The main character has something in her past that she does not want to talk about, the result of a bad decision made during her magical studies. Just how bad was this decision? What permanent marks did it leave on her?
So, I have an opening, a first pass at major characters, and a plot skeleton. I will post more here later.
